Local Denver Business Expansion - Ace Hardware in Lakewood

December 7, 2016

Ace Hardware in the Community

Ace Hardware has been a part of the center at 26th Avenue and Kipling Street since 1997, which shows how well the community has embraced this retailer. Currently operating out of a space that is 14,440 square feet, this local Denver business is about to change in the next few weeks. Renovations began on October 1, 2016 to add an additional 5,897 square feet to the store by expanding into 2533-2545 Kipling Street. This means the Lakewood Ace Hardware store will now consist of over 20,000 square feet!

The retailer is expected to open the doors on its new space sometime in December, although an official date has not yet been announced. Hopefully, it will be in time for holiday shoppers to see the changes that have taken place and browse through the new inventory that will need to be brought in to fill the additional square footage. But, that’s not the only news regarding the Lakewood Ace Hardware store. On top of adding more space for their customers, they are also committing to the community by renewing their current lease for another decade! As a commercial real estate company, we love seeing a strong partnership between a commercial business and a property owner, and are looking forward to seeing Ace Hardware in the community for the next 10 years.

Ace Hardware Background

Founded in 1924, Ace Hardware has currently grown to consist of over 4,600 stores spanning across all 50 states here in the U.S., and 70 countries around the world. It is now considered the largest retailer-owned hardware cooperative store in the entire industry. But, it’s not the quantity of stores that matters to this corporation, but the quality of service provided to each customer. Ace Hardware prides itself on being “the helpful place” that people in the community can come to when they have any questions or concerns regarding their hardware needs. Customers never have to feel intimidated or out of place when they step into an Ace Hardware, since handymen of all skill levels are welcomed with open arms.

Each of the Ace Hardware locations is independently owned, which allows owners to customize their inventory and marketing strategy to better connect with the community. The Lakewood location that is undergoing the expansion is managed and owned by Mike Vanderkolk, who also manages and owns the location in Westminster, CO. It’s clear he is doing an incredible job of attracting customers to the store and finding success in the Denver market!
