On Santa Fe Drive, there spans a stretch of a few blocks between 12th
and Alameda where art takes center stage. We call this area in Denver the Art District on Santa Fe, where over 60 creatives and businesses participate in events and collaborative community gatherings regularly. There are often showcases of the arts with variety – food, visual art, music, and more.
One of the highlights on a monthly basis for The Art District on Santa Fe is their First Friday event. True to the name, on the first Friday of each month, business and vendors open their doors or park their trucks along the road and patrons stroll the scene of the art walk throughout the evening and are able to interact with gallery operators, artists, store owners, and aspiring talent showcasing their work outside. It is a great opportunity for Denver residents to have access to local art and support local artists.
29th Annual Holiday Exhibition
For December, The Art District on Santa Fe is showcasing their 29th Annual Holiday Exhibition
. As a way to incorporate local businesses and artists with holiday shopping, the studios and galleries along Santa Fe will be featuring specialty items to make perfect gifts this season. First Friday would be a great time to make your way through the shops, take care of some last minute gift buying, and catch some local music and food along the way.
Shopping the Galleries
Galleries will be featuring all types of works in the fine arts from paintings and sculptures, to ceramics, jewelry, and photography. An additional draw for First Friday is the artists’ studios in the galleries – artists will open the doors to their studios and allow the public to take a glimpse into their process as well as visit with the artist personally to further gain perspective and get the full story behind their work.
First Friday Shuttle
With the winter weather upon us and the nights dropping temperatures, consider looking into First Friday’s Shuttle Coach
! The Art District on Santa Fe offers a full tour of the art walk – guiding passengers through the loop from 10th
and Osage to Kalamath and 3rd
, then around and up to West High School which takes you back to the light rail station as Osage. Take advantage of this transportation to catch the best works on the street without the legwork – starting at 5:30 and running until 10PM, you can make your way to a shuttle stop and hitch a ride for the arts.
